Anyone remember the story of Aron Ralston?
I read his autobiography a few years back: “Between a rock and a hard place”. His story has also been made into a movie: 127 hours.
Aron’s a rock climber. He set himself the challenge to climb the 7 peaks of the world. On his way to training for it back in April 2003, he decided to do some solo canyoning in the Utah desert in the USA.

Thomas Edison famously once said: “Genius is one per cent inspiration and ninety-nine per cent perspiration.”
As one of the most prolific inventors of the 19th Century, does anyone know what Edison’s most famous invention was?
A. His invention of the light bulb.
Here’s the thing. Did you know that in fact, Edison’s light bulb wasn’t the first light bulb invented. The unsung hero of invention would happen to be a Brit from 1803-1809, Humphry Davy, who demonstrated the first incandescent light to the Royal Institute in Great Britain, using a bank of batteries and two charcoal rods. Arc lamps provided many cities with their first electric streetlights in England.
Here on this mountainside with the disciples listening in, Jesus sits down to teach us about blessing.
How often are our prayers filled with “Bless me … help me … solve this for me…”
Jesus has in view something that really should make us uncomfortable,

Here’s a Christmas treat - Some things can really grab our attention …
Clip: Westjet Christmas Miracle 5:24
You’d think there’d be a few who, if they knew the outcome, might have reconsidered what they had wanted to ask for Christmas. I keep on thinking of the guy who all he could come up with is asking for socks and undies.
When we come today, wrapping up Christmas for another year, what’s going to be the one thing you hope surprises you most. I’ve always noticed the things that surprise us get our attention.
Amos 9:11-15 + Revelation 22:12-16
As we come to celebrate Christmas Day this week, I hope you’re ready … the early wake up, or the family or friends gatherings we’ll get to.
I was thinking about this the other day back when Cherryn and I lived in Albury back in the mid 90’s (1995 to be precise). It was October 14th, and we were anticipating the delivery of our first brand new fridge. I have to say that was a big deal for us. It took us ages to save up for that. Trouble is, it wasn’t the only thing we were anticipating…

Here’s a memorable line from Frederick Langbridge
Imagine 2 men languishing in prison
each one is able to look out on the view from their cell
yet each one may as well be universes apart with what they see
“Two men look at the same bars: One sees mud and one sees the stars.” [1]
Luke 14:15-24
Celebrations are fun just as well we get to all sorts of parties about now
friend ones – school ones - work ones – family ones
I’m also sure you’re looking forward to the end of school celebration
Or the Christmas New Years break with work done for another year
so I’ve been thinking what is worth celebrating today?
