Meekness Today
Eg letting someone into traffic.
Allowing someone else to speak less confident than you.
Allowing someone else to win who has not tasted victory.down on confidence.
Stepping down from a position to allow below to exercise responsibility
Choosing a course at uni or tafe which has the potential of serving people when you could have done a more upmarket one. in the eyes of the world.
Volunteering to clean up so others could engage in meaningful conversation.
Being consistent and regular at the gathering of God’s people so as to encourage those less mature even when you are tired and spent.
Taking a risk by talking to a stranger and so serving that person.
Being the first to own up to making a mistake so that it becomes easier for others to do the same.
Doing a job nobody else likes to do but has to be done.
These choices do not just happen . It is a deliberate decision to take the lesser path to help the interests of others. Meekness as a controlled desire to see the other's interests go ahead of one's own.

(c) opposition to meekness-
Materialistic persuasions .Take what you can. Doing well means a good paying job, place yourself in a winning position.
Eg someone not taking a promotion for the sake of the family.
-Status More into justifying ourselves, than edyfying
Lose ourselves in the organisation of the church, where we work ourselves up ,become recognised, looked to for leadership, start to be involved in meetings. Become Corporately wise . quietly we acquire a status. which takes us away from the having to do the ground work of taking a gentle approach personally to people , a meekness of placing their need of hearing the gospel ,so that they become compelled to seek The Lord and enter the kingdom. Status which sneaks up on us may have the effect of eroding the meekness which we need in face to face get at the greatest need a person has ,knowing Jesus Christ and knowing him better.
Within the church the Status factor working against meekness has to be watched. It happened to the apostle Paul.He was meek but that is not a term that immediately comes to mind when you mention Paul, in fact the opposite. However if the definition of Meekness is putting someone else’s need before his own. He would rank up there .
His whole life is a testimony of How God took him down from a high ranking churchman of an organisation , a Pharisee to one who regarded rank as nothing only what does count is knowing Jesus Christ and making Him known. He was willing to lower himself to win others for Christ. He was putting other people’s needs for eternal salvation over his own safety and comfort. His whole life since conversion was a life of meekness.
(d)The rest of scripture and Meekness. Gal5:22f Col.3:12.
Gal 5:22
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23 gentleness (Meekness.)and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Col 3:12 ¶ Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, (gentleness meekness.)and patience.

Meekness is a fruit of the Spirit.
Process of developing a fruitful Christian life.
If meekness is practiced , then the world will oppose it.-Grab what you can. you take your bonus your millions and let the administrator fix things up when bankruptcy comes. Individually we tend to think that the world revolves around us ,we are the most important person, the centre of the universe and therefore we relate very badly to the four to five billion people are living under the same delusion.
The meek person sees himself and herself under God who alone is important and starts to relate to others to live that conviction out.
It is very encouraging to see that where ever you go and meet up with Christians all over the world there is one thing in common. God does not begrudge developing a fruitful life to his people. Like a good parent never refuses fruit to his children. Even new Christians are blessed with fruitfulness .
Meekness in the lifestyle of Jesus
How did this work out in Jesus' life.? He is the only one who could say with integrity 28 "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
NIV -Gentle.

Philippians 2:5 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,
7 but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.
8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death--even death on a cross!

The reward of Meekness

Ps 37:10 A little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for them, they will not be found.
11 But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy great peace.
(a) In Christ the meek already see themselves 'Possessing everything."
(2 Cor6:10. cf 1 cor 3:21-23)
He is already content.his ego is not so inflated that he thinks he should have more. And in Christ he has everything of worth.

2 Cor 6:10 A description of fellow workers for the gospel."sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, and yet possessing everything.
1 cor 3:21 ¶ So then, no more boasting about men! All things are yours,
22 whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future--all are yours,
23 and you are of Christ, and Christ is of God.
1 ¶ So then, men ought to regard us as servants of Christ and as those entrusted with the secret things of God.,
22 whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future--all are yours,
(b) The fullness of the inheritance.
Eph 5:5 For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person--such a man is an idolater--has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
Col 1:12 giving thanks

Matt 7: 8 For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
9 "Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone?
10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?
11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!

WE were at the lookout a few days ago in the blue Mts .We were admiring the view towards Mt solitary .Whether you are a tourist or a local at that moment of taking in that magnificent panorama, the person watching is as much an owner of the entire vista as anyone else. At that moment everyone is an owner under the eye of the creator. The majestic view is beyond human ownership. A new heaven and a new earth . Even when this world grows tired and polluted at the return of Christ everything as God had first intended .Glorious perfection will transform the earth . In meekness we are now being transformed more into the likeness of Christ the creator doing the will of His Father in Christ .
Blessed are the meek .
