Luke 4:14-30

Hymn Exegesis: Be Thou My Vision
Well known Hymn
We don't know who wrote it
But we do know what they wrote about

Be Thou My Vision. O Lord of My Heart,

Verse 1
Be Thou my Vision
O Lord of my heart
Naught be all else to me
Save that Thou art
Thou my best thought
By day or by night
Waking or sleeping
Thy presence my light

This hymn sweeps over us with a torrent of pictures images and truths

It's a hymn that stands out
Here the cry : Be Thou My Vision - it's a plea would you please fill the centre of my life with the gaze on you
There is also a submission
Everything in this hymn points us God's way

It's a kind of prayer Oh God would you please but do something in me that is for your glory - that it all would be about you and not about me.

One thing we know is there is lack of sleep
The writers head feels like it's about to cave in

The question the hymn asks us
Who is Lord of My heart

Verse 2
Be Thou my Wisdom
And Thou my true Word
I ever with Thee
And Thou with me Lord
Thou my great Father
I Thy true son
Thou in me dwelling
And I with Thee one
